Vehicle
graphics range from small window decals for schools and car dealerships
to full wraps for fleet vehicles. Deciding where you fall in between
depends on your budget, tastes, and of course your vehicle.
LONGEVITY
In
almost all cases a premium quality "cast" vinyl film is
applied to the vehicle. These vinyls are usually rated anywhere
from 3 to 10 years of outdoor durability. Some films, such as one-way
vision for windows, have a shorter life expectancy.
Generally,
there two different methods popularly used to letter vehicles: (1)
Vinyl films which can be cut into custom shapes (2) Vinyl films
which are digitally printed on (for colorful, photographic elements).
Digitally printed graphics do not hold up against the elements as
well, with average lifespans ranging from 2 to 6 years. Vinyl films
which are simply cut range from 5 to 10 years.
Of
course, the longevity of the graphics mostly depends on the elements
they are subjected to. Graphics applied to a vehicle stored in a
garage will no doubt last longer than a vehicle stored outdoors
(less UV rays, wind, rain, etc.)
CHOICES
IN VINYLS
Computer
Cut Vinyl Films
The
photo below is an example of using computer cut vinyl to represent
a logo and text. Notice that white vinyl was mostly used on the
windows, and the blue that is present was outlined with white. Glass
is a very difficult surface for displaying color because of the
amount of competing reflection.

Digitally
Printed Vinyl Films
The
photo directly below is an example of digitally printed vinyl applied
to a truck. The customer wanted to go beyond just displaying vital
business information and show examples of their work. This makes
for a stunning company vehicle which is guaranteed to turn heads.

Though
digitally printed graphics look awesome, a customer must also weigh
in their shorter life span and higher cost.
WINDOW
DECALS
Window
decals are great tools for supporting a group or organization such
as schools. Many organizations successfully use decals as fundraising
items. Below are some examples of window decals we produced for
some local schools. Usually these decals are between 3" and
6" wide and most have a white outline around them to make them
stand out from tinted windows.

The
Great Static Cling Problem
Many
customers arrive at our store wanting to purchase static cling decals
for windshields. Static clings are attractive because they are easily
removable and stick to many surfaces without leaving adhesive residue.
However, for automobiles they must be placed on the inside of the
windshield (placed outside they will blow off or be easily stolen),
and many cars have tinted windows. This greatly affects the visibility
of the decal.
This
is why 9 times out of 10 we recommend adhesive decals which are
installed on the outside of the window. They are brighter and last
longer than their static cling counterparts. If you think static
cling decals are still a better choice for your application, feel
free to call or email us and we will be able to assist you with
your particular job.
